Frequency of replacement: Every 40,000 KMs
Symptoms
Function:
Frequency of replacement: It is advisable to replace the transmission oil filter along with the transmission oil each time.
Symptoms:
Function:
The transmission oil filter cleans the particulate material in the transmission oil coming from friction between metallic parts and aging of the oil in high temperature and pressure.
This is a very critical component that usually lasts a lifetime if very well maintained. It is an expensive service and needs to done at well qualifies service centers.
Symptoms
Function
The transmission adapts the output of the internal combustion engine to the drive wheels. Engine need to operate at a relatively high rotational speed, which is inappropriate for starting, stopping, and slower travel. The transmission reduces the higher engine speed to the slower wheel speed, increasing torque in the process based on your requirement.
Frequency of replacement: Only when symptoms are visible during vehicle inspection.
Symptoms:
Whistling noise. If you hear a high-pitched whistle or whine around the axle where the differential sits, this is often the first sign of trouble. (You might have to turn down the radio to hear it.)
Rumbles or clunks around the axle. This is a sign that things are getting worse. You may first hear this sound when you accelerate, then more frequently when you're coasting as the problem worsens.
Drag on the vehicle. The car may feel more sluggish when you're coasting, especially at low speeds. It might feel like you're driving on low tires.
Function
A differential is the mechanical device that divides the engine torque and allows each output to spin at a different speed. There are front-wheel-drive differentials, rear-wheel-drive differentials and all-wheel-drive differentials.
Because the wheels on a car sometimes spin at different speeds and move slightly different distances when turning, a device is needed to allow each to rotate at a different speed (hence the name “differential”). A differential also provides the final gear reduction that slows the rotational speed of the transmission before it reaches the wheels.
